7 Reasons To Regularly See Your Dental Hygienist

May 21, 2018 By voxxydev Leave a Comment

When it comes to regularly visiting our dental hygienists for dental cleanings, not everyone is convinced that it is all that important. If you are debating whether or not you need to come in for a cleaning, our dentists have seven reasons you should be booking your dental cleaning today.

Regular Cleanings Protect Your Oral Health

Toothbrushes and floss can only remove so much from your teeth, especially if not regularly done. The foods we eat and the things we drink leave small deposits on our teeth and gums, which builds up into plaque and tartar over time.

With regular cleanings performed by our dental hygienists, this build up is removed. This helps keep your teeth from building a deep scale of plaque which leaves teeth vulnerable to bacteria and decay.

Enjoy A Cleaner-Feeling Smile

After plaque and tartar are removed, many people express that they love the feeling right after a dental cleaning. The buildup of plaque isn’t often noticeable as it happens gradually but once it is all removed, teeth often feel smoother and look lighter.

Identify Dental Issues Before They Are Serious

As our dental hygienists clean, they check for signs of cavities, gingivitis, and other oral health issues. By catching these small issues early, bigger dental problems like periodontitis and advanced tooth decay can be prevented.

Also, the x-rays taken during your regular dental exam can help our dentists identify any hidden issues, such as fractured dental roots, impacted teeth, and other issues which cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Oral Cancers Often Identified By Dentist

Our dentists here at Riverside Dental Care are all trained to identify signs of oral cancer. As oral cancers are not generally part of a physical or other common health exams, dental cleanings are one of the most reliable ways to screen for oral cancer.

Lessen Stress Between Dentist Visits

The longer a visit to the dentist is put off, the harder it becomes to go in for your cleaning. Stress can start mounting and make it easier to put off your next visit to our dentist. You can circumvent this problem by making sure after you finish having your teeth cleaned by our hygienist that you schedule your next appointment before you leave our office.

Build Up A Clear Dental History

With regular visits for dental cleanings, you establish a clear dental history. That way, it is easier to identify potential issues and if you want additional cosmetic dentistry, our dentist will also have a clear baseline of your dental health to work from.

Regular Visits Are More Affordable In The Long-Term

Many forms of health insurance cover regular dental cleanings as well as simpler procedures like cavity fillings. Even without dental insurance, the cost of a cleaning and filling are much more affordable than if a simple cavity is given time to become seriously decayed. The cost of your dental needs can jump from a couple hundred dollars (cleaning and filling) to thousands of dollars (cleaning, root canal, and crown) if you delay scheduling your regular dental cleanings.

If you are ready to take care of your regular dental cleaning needs, contact us for an appointment today. We will help you maintain your dental health and alleviate your dental-related concerns.
