Preventing Dental Problems: Tips For Maintaining A Healthy Mouth

July 26, 2023 By voxxydev Leave a Comment

dental cleanings st george utah washington utahPerhaps you struggle with cavities each time that you go to the dentist, so maybe preventing cavities sounds like a big task. Yet others have yet to develop a cavity and dental health maybe just seems to come easier for them. Either way, we have that one of the best ways to have a healthy mouth is to prevent dental problems from ever starting.

I know that may sound tricky but we have a solution to share with you. The good news is that we have found making small, positive changes in your dental habits to be the most effective way to keeping a healthy mouth. Keep reading as we share the daily tips that we as your dental team have found most helpful.

Routine Dental Visits

Visiting your dentist twice a year is important for your overall dental health. Any areas of plaque that you are missing, your dental hygienist can remove when you visit for your dental cleaning.

Also, having a dental exam done by your dentist on a regular basis is important for catching areas of decay and monitoring the health of your gum tissue. If any problems do arise, it is important to catch them as early as possible. Dental problems only seem to progress and get worse with time.

For those who struggle with cavities or gum disease, extra visits may be suggested. Working closely with your dentist and keeping a close eye on these conditions can be beneficial for helping you get these problems under control. Once things have stabilized it may be possible for you to return to twice a year visits.

Routine dental visits are also a great time to get any questions answered that you have about dental products, dental concerns, or dental treatment.

Great Homecare

While visiting your dentist on a regular basis is super important, nothing can replace the importance of the daily habits that you can do to help your teeth and gums stay healthy. We might get to care for your teeth twice a year but you have the opportunity to care for your teeth 365 days a year! So you can hopefully see how you play a huge role in your dental health.

When it comes to homecare, there are many things that you can be doing. Here are a few things that we highly recommend making part of your daily routines:

  • Brush twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush
  • Floss daily, wrapping the floss around each side of the tooth
  • Swish with mouthrinse once a day to freshen your breath and help control bacteria in your mouth
  • Use an electric toothbrush to help provide the most effective brushing

Healthy Lifestyle

Your body is very interconnected in that each system can affect another. If you are eating healthy food and living a healthy lifestyle it often shows in many ways throughout your body. These healthy habits are great for your overall health but they can also be beneficial to your oral health:

  • Eat several servings of fruits and vegetables each day for good vitamins and minerals
  • Consume low sugar dairy products to help provide calcium for strong bones and teeth
  • Limit the amount of sugar you are consuming
  • Be conservative with sugary, acidic drinks as they can be hard on your teeth
  • Drink enough water throughout the day as this benefits your body in so many ways
  • Exercise at least a few times a week

What things have you found helpful in caring for your teeth? Do you have something that could be added to our list, if so please leave it in the comments below.
